Founded in 2003, NOVO Properties is a multifamily owner, developer, asset and property management organization headquartered on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

NOVO currently manages a portfolio of approximately 2,000 apartment homes throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, Chicago, and the city of Cambridge on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

At NOVO, we’re forging a new and better path in the multifamily and commercial real estate investment space. Our focus is to strategically acquire, develop, and manage existing multifamily and mixed-use assets and infill development sites within targeted urban and suburban markets. 

We strive to be a best-in-class owner and operator in every project we pursue. With a forward-looking approach, disciplined due diligence and underwriting, and decades of experience producing favorable outcomes, we are positioned to produce value for our strategic partners, residents, and the surrounding community.

Our History

  • NOVO Properties was founded in 2003 on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. 

  • After initially working out of an English basement apartment on Capitol Hill, NOVO acquired the Chambers funeral home, a two-story Art Deco building, in April of 2004 which now serves as NOVO Properties’ Washington, DC office and corporate headquarters.

    NOVO was one of the early organizations that reinvested in the Barracks Row neighborhood in Southeast, Washington, DC.

  • In 2005, NOVO expanded our business from the Washington Metropolitan Area to Chicago, Illinois and to the city of Cambridge on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. 

  • By 2006, NOVO was managing over 1,000 apartment homes.

  • By 2008, NOVO was managing approximately 2,000 units in four major markets.

  • In 2014 NOVO introduced its third-party management platform, NOVO Properties.

    Led by Michelle Reed, a widely recognized and respected property management expert, NOVO now provides best-in-class management services to owners not only concentrated in the Washington, DC Metro Area, but within markets throughout the country.

  • In 2015 NOVO accomplished its first infill development project, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, a 77 unit multi-family property located on Capitol Hill. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave is the first of several anticipated ground up developments. 

  • In 2021 NOVO established its capital company, NOVO Capital Partners, which focuses on mezzanine lending, capital allocation and investment management services.

  • NOVO continues to grow and expand our development business along with our third-party management services.
